Does the Decision Ready Checklist Benefit You?

The Decision Ready Priority Processing service is ideal for those students who need a speedy visa grant. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will aim to grant the visa within 6 weeks of receiving the application, subject to case load.

This priority processing service can only be accessed through engaging the services of a Registered Migration Agent and will only be available to students who have completed their Australian studies in a skill which is included on the new skilled occupations list. We will be offering this fast track processing service as an added benefit but nevertheless as an inclusive part of our service.

The Decision Ready Checklist is an initiative of DIAC to speed up applications for 885, 886 and 487 visas in Priority Groups 2 and 3.  In the future, DIAC may also accept decision ready checklists for occupations in Priority Group 4.

If ever there was a time to use the services of a registered migration agent it is now.

Meet the AMVL Student Team

We’ve had a few changes at AMVL recently and we thought it would be a great time to reintroduce the Student Team.

Joan Cuss
Joan is a Registered Migration Agent and an overseas qualified lawyer and was first admitted as an attorney of the High Court in South Africa in 1993. She practised as a labour lawyer until 1999 when she joined South African Airways as Senior Manager Legal Services.  Joan moved to Australia in mid-2007.

As a registered agent she ran her own migration consultancy in Brisbane before joining AMVL.  Joan has a lot of empathy with the many challenges migrants have to face when arriving in a new country.  She is passionate about 'brand Australia’ and thrilled that she and her family have already become Aussies themselves.  She speaks English, German and Afrikaans fluently and learnt French and Latin at school and university, respectively.

Teri Pearce
Teri joined the Company in February 2009 and more recently was assigned to the Student Team at AMVL.  Having migrated to Australia in 2008 from the UK, Teri has a keen interest in Migration Law.  Teri has undertaken to study to become a Registered Migration Agent, having completed a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree in the UK.

When away from the office Teri is a focused athlete who enjoys long distance running and having run the New York Marathon is now focusing on the Sydney Marathon in 2011.

Finishing your Nursing Degree and want to stay in Oz?

As of 1 July 2010 the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is the new umbrella organisation responsible for the registration and accreditation of ten health professions across Australia. AHPRA’s ‘umbrella’ includes managing the registration process for nurses and students who have completed their qualifications in nursing across Australia via its Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Once the registration has been completed the skills assessment of the newly Registered Nurse is attended to by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC). To make this process as easy as possible, AMVL facilitate and complete these skills assessments on behalf of our clients.

Before being able to register as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA an English proficiency test must be completed. A Registered Nurse has to pass an Academic IELTS (or equivalent test) and be deemed Proficient in English before AHPRA will grant his/her nursing registration.

During August 2010 AHPRA have slightly relaxed the requirements for English language proficiency, by exempting prospective nursing registrants from sitting an IELTS test (or equivalent)  if they can prove that they have completed their secondary education with English as their language of instruction.

Health Clearances Reduced for 457 Visas

DIAC are aiming to speed up the processing time of 457 visas with the new e-health system.   Using the e-health system means that there are no Forms 26 and 160 as all the information is sent to the panel doctor electronically.  When the doctor sees the applicant, all the information is inserted into the system and the results sent electronically to DIAC – so no lost medicals or long waits while paper forms are sent to the health processing centre in Sydney.

It reduces health clearances down to a few days.  The good news is that within the next 9 months they are aiming to provide e-health facilities to all applicants – both onshore and offshore, and allow front end loading (so doing the e-health before an application is lodged).  AMVL will keep you posted on any updates with the e-health system!
